Building Fresh Website Content for Search Engines

Last month we talked about the advantages of quality website content and this month we provide ideas on how to achieve this.

New and unique content consistently plays an important role in terms of search engine optimisation.

Internet users surf daily on the Internet to find the latest information on topics with interest them. Search engines understand this and therefore place a great emphasis on the freshness of content.

Websites that are regularly updated also encourage the search engine spiders to visit often.

For example, a website that has its content updated daily will find that search engines visit and crawl the page more often than the other less active pages. This clearly explains why blogs are visited frequently by bots in comparison to other sites. New content will help to ensure that your website is indexed by search engines regularly.

RSS feeds are an easy way to get fresh content on your website. To find RSS feeds that you think would be of interest to your visitors, simply do an Internet search. Syndic8 offers news feeds on a wide variety of topics - for more local topics The New Zealand Herald has an extensive selection of RSS feeds available - if New Zealand tourism related topics would benefit your website, then Tourism New Zealand could be the one for you. Publishing articles on your website is another way to ensure you have fresh content available. If you are not into creating your own articles, there is a lot of information available on the Internet that can be reprinted legally – there are numerous article directories with free articles available on just about any topic imaginable – some examples are Article Dashboard, Article Directory and Go Articles. Ensure that you read and follow the publisher guidelines if reprinting any articles obtained online as Copyright violations can be costly. Generally articles should be published "as is" (unedited), should include the author’s bio paragraph (resource box) and copyright information and URLs in the resource box should be set as hyperlinks.

The methods mentioned above are excellent ways of creating fresh content, but it is also important to note that creating unique content for your site can be even more effective. The only way to create unique content is to write it yourself or get someone else to write for you.

As far as Search Engine Optimisation goes, fresh and unique content is of paramount importance. In order to display the latest information on your website to visitors via search engines, you simply must update your website pages regularly as this will ensure that the spiders will visit and index more often and in turn your site will gain a higher rank in the search engines.
